When to Consider a Tempest Custom Engineered Low Temperature Industrial Chiller

A majority of Tempest projects fall within the 20F to -60F temperature range. Low temperature chillers are custom engineered and skid-designed. Tonnages range from 10-to-300 Tons on a single skid

Chillers below -60F are classified as Ultra-Low Temperature Chillers.  These systems are cascade designed with high side and low side refrigerant circuits. Typical tonnages for ultra-low temperature chillers ranges between 10 to 25-tons.

Ammonia is one of the most efficient, environmentally friendly refrigerants on the market. Tempest has over 35 years of Ammonia Refrigeration experience, we consider ourselves ammonia experts. From servicing ammonia chillers to designing and engineering new systems, we do it all. Our in-house engineering team can work with you to answer any questions related to safety and coding requirements.

A majority of the process applications we encounter require a load capacity between 10 to 400 tons on a single skid built industrial chiller. We can design and build below 10-tons in certain circumstances and for applications requiring above 400-tons we can explore multiple skids

If your process has a 10% to 20% low load turndown requirement and/or a needed for built-in redundancy, Tempest can provide value. We size and select compressors to match your process load profile. There are several ways to approach redundancy and Tempest design for all (i.e. N+1 chiller capacity, 50% chiller capacity, 100% compressor redundancy, or 50% compressor redundancy)

Space constraints can come in a variety of ways…mechanical rooms, door clearances, pre-laid cement pads. Tempest can engineer the chiller to factor in these constraints. If plant floor space is a premium we can design a containerized chiller system that sits outside of the plant acting as it’s own mechanical room

Tempest can design for Class 1 Division 2 rated applications; Groups B, C, & D.

Our Industrial Chiller Systems can be designed with an integral Pump/Tank Delivery System or on a separate skid pending fitment or process layout needs. Tempest typically designs systems for Syltherm, Dynalene, Ethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, however there are plenty of other heat transfer fluids we designed for.
